From July 9-11, 2024, Djibouti hosted a national workshop in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The workshop aimed to equip stakeholders, including businesses and members of the National Stakeholders, with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively implement the AfCFTA.
Strategic economic integration and trade are crucial for Djibouti’s economic development, particularly given its strategic location. The AfCFTA offers opportunities for market access, economic diversification, and increased competitiveness. Achieving these benefits requires a well-planned strategy, political commitment, institutional enhancements, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.
Having ratified the AfCFTA in May 2022, Djibouti has developed a National Implementation Framework with support from the ECA. This framework includes actionable plans and capacity building efforts for both the public and private sectors. The recent workshop centered on capacity building, strategic guidance, sharing best practices, and providing concrete recommendations. These efforts are essential for Djibouti to effectively implement the AfCFTA and fully capitalize on its potential.
